Overview

Semester One lays the essential foundations of Islamic knowledge, focusing on sound belief, correct worship, and a disciplined approach to learning rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Students begin by establishing clarity in Aqeedah according to Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah, forming a firm understanding of Islamic creed and methodology. At the same time, they are introduced to the fundamentals of fiqh, Qur’anic interpretation, and the Arabic language, allowing them to engage with Islamic texts in an informed and structured manner. Alongside academic study, strong emphasis is placed on character development, spiritual purification, and the etiquette of seeking knowledge, ensuring that learning translates into personal growth and righteous conduct. This semester equips students with the tools, mindset, and foundational structure necessary for deeper understanding and more advanced studies in the semesters that follow.

Tafseer & Arabic (Understanding Revelation)

Tafseer 1 guides students through a structured explanation of the Qur’an using Tafseer As-Sa‘di, covering Surah Qaf through Surah Al-Hadeed. The focus is on understanding meanings, themes, and lessons of the verses in a clear and accessible manner, connecting Qur’anic guidance to belief, worship, and daily life.

Alongside this, Arabic 1 introduces essential Arabic grammar, including parts of speech, sentence structure, and foundational linguistic rules. This combined approach enables students to begin engaging directly with the language of the Qur’an and classical Islamic texts, laying the groundwork for deeper comprehension in later semesters.

Aqeedah (Creed Foundations)

Semester 1 begins with a solid and methodical grounding in Islamic creed through Aqeedah 1. Students study the core principles of Aqeedah according to Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah, focusing on correct belief, sound methodology, and clarity in matters of faith. The course draws from the clear explanations of Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen alongside the classical work Usool us Sunnah by Imam Ahmad, allowing students to understand the foundations of belief as taught by the scholars of the Salaf.

Through structured study, students learn to recognize authentic creed, avoid misconceptions, and build a firm theological foundation that supports all other areas of Islamic knowledge.

Fiqh (Worship Practice)

In Fiqh 1, students are introduced to the practical dimensions of Islamic worship through the foundational text Akhsar al Mukhtasarat by Ibn Balban. The course focuses primarily on the fiqh of purification (taharah) and prayer (salah), teaching students not only the rulings, but also the wisdom and discipline behind correct worship. Emphasis is placed on understanding evidence-based rulings, common mistakes, and proper application in daily life.

By the end of the course, students gain confidence in performing acts of worship correctly and consistently, grounded in reliable scholarship and authentic understanding.

Hadith, Tazkiyah & Character Development

Semester 1 also places strong emphasis on spiritual development, prophetic guidance, and personal refinement. In Hadith 1, students memorize and study 50 selected hadith from Imam An-Nawawi and Ibn Rajab, learning both their meanings and practical applications. Tazkiyah 1 introduces the concept of purification of the soul based on the works of Ibn al-Qayyim, focusing on sincerity, self-discipline, and spiritual awareness. Complementing this, Islamic Manners emphasizes the etiquette of seeking knowledge, humility, and proper conduct with teachers and peers.
